Today, the Rock Star Principals’ Podcast brings you a very special episode involving one of the most prominent and important topics in education today: School Safety.

The rate of people killed by guns in the US is 19.5 times higher than similar high-income countries in the world. Over the last 30 years, America has mourned at least 61 mass murdersSince the horrific attack on Columbine in 1999, school shootings and violence have increased across the country.  There have been over 31 school shootings since Columbine.  Combined school shootings in every other country in the world since that time is less than 14.

Despite these facts, our schools, home to our most important and cherished gifts, our children, continue to be grossly under-prepared and ill-equipped to handle the potential of violence that exists.

Today, Jon and Nick bring you a special interview with owner and founder of Direct Measures International and Attack Countermeasures Training, Alon Stivi, who advocates a different mindset and pro-active approach to school safety.  We guarantee that once you listen to this podcast, your thoughts on school safety will never be the same.

Dr. Robert Reed, Director of K-12 Principals in the Downingtown Area School District, obtained funding for the ACT Training and Certification in "Attack Countermeasure Training," in conjunction with LaTorre Consulting Incorporated, through Direct Measures International with Global Counter-Terrorism expert, Mr. Alon Stivi.

In today's episode, Nick and Jon interview Mr. Stivi following the 25 hour on-line course, but prior to the face-to-face training.  Then, the Rock Stars break down the live training and overall philosophy in a Post-Training segment recorded afterwards.  We’d like to thank Dr. Reed for his leadership, Mr. Bill LaTorre for his hard work on behalf of the district, and Mr. Alon Stivi for being so gracious with his time and experience.  Life is, indeed, beautiful and worth protecting.
